Interesting video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2Z1qlpU6DU

Phil Smith discusses many topics including: audition prep, his battle with dystonia, and some great stories.

What a wonderful man.

I was at that NTC talk and spoke with him afterwards. He is truly a humble, God loving man, and gentle giant. For what it's worth, his cornet playing from the previous night's concert didn't sound any different than before his dystonia battles.

I try not to elevate people to 'hero' status, but Phil Smith will always be one of my heroes.

Can't recall more exciting orchestral playing than Phil Smith in the 80's (when I heard the NYPO a lot). I had no idea that he had a chop problem. Did he leave the Philharmonic early because of it?

Men who act upon His gift of faith have perseverance.
Phil Smith has lived this way.
Quiting is not an option.
Read 2 Corinthians 4.
