Hi all, just a note that the long awaited Merri Franquin Method Translation is now available at qPress. It took 18 months, but was well worth the wait. It is a beautiful book and I am thrilled to make it available in English (at a third of the cost of the French edition no less).

Check it out here, I hope you dig it!

So glad you are liking it! Many people who have avoided this great book because of the language barrier will now have a chance to go through this for the first time.

I have no doubt! It's well thought out, and the instructions are so valuable. I bought a copy in the original french some years ago (I think it was about $125 at that time...zut alors!!) Much credit to you for all of the work that went into your translation; it has the potential to help countless trumpeters who take the time to use the method.

Yes, I agree. It was interesting to me how much the text holds up today. I was very excited as I was editing it. The only area that doesn't make as much sense today might be the area on transposing. He used a method where you would put it in bass clef and use different fingerings. I know many low brass players do that to this day, but I think most modern trumpeters just do a simple displacement and mental key change.

It is no bother though. I was glad to see transposition get such an emphasis. Even in the late 19th century he knew how important of a skill it was.

Hi there, yes it is available in French but the sample pages are in English. If you buy the French version be assured you get the French original.

Just click the drop own to switch from English to French.

This translation is very helpful. I've worked out of the French version before, and I've typed snippets of instruction into Google translate, but this is much, much better. Great method.

For those okay with translating the French the original book is available here:

Depending on your country it should be out of copyright or pretty darn close to it.
