Complete wild guess here but I'd say maybe Martin Kretzer will retire and Tamas Velenczi will move down to section. |

Surely that's not the only piece that has to be played. I'm guessing....different country, different way of advertising requirements. Somebody please explain this to me lol. |

I don't remember 100 percent but Guillaume Jehl (second trumpet) explained it to us this way:
It was basically two solo rounds and then an excerpt round. The piece was Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Berlin Phil is looking for an artist first and foremost. I believe he may have had a choice of a second solo to present.
After he showed them he was indeed an artist, he played 8 excerpts on the final round.
Basically, the Haydn Trumpet Concerto is the majority of your audition.
Again, I didn't write it down and I'm sure some of our German TH's can answer better. |

On Feb 29th they did Mahler 3rd and Tamas Velenczi did the off stage part. It was amazing, probably the best I've heard. |

No speculation on contenders? Interestingly, the Berlin Phil just appoint some teenage prodigy as 2nd trumpet.
Will Tom Hooten go to Berlin? Will Chris Martin use his present playing ability and attractiveness to test German waters?
And which gig (Ny,chi,Berlin) do you all feel is say the best with regards to:
1. City/lifestyle relative to pay
2. The music!
3. Caliber of the orchestra/ reputation |

The best reputation of all orchestras:
Guangdong Radio-Recording National Symphony of the People of the People's Republic of China. |

Tamas is going to second. Has been co-principal for a long time now. Martin retired. That's what Gabor told me. |

German Bb trumpet means rotary Bb?
Could one submit an audition using say a B&S piston Bb trumpet? |

A bit off topic, but anyone know what happened to Florian Pichler, who has disappeared from the roster, it seems? |

Florian Pichler joined the orchestra at September 1st 2014 at the age of 18.
It seems, he didn't make it through his 'Probezeit' (trial period), which is two years in the Berlin Philharmonic. |

My guess is that the advertised position is Gabor's.
Florian hasn't been offered tenure =>
A tutti position is vacant =>
Gabor steps down into the vacant chair =>
Gabor's principal position opens up.
There's already been an audition for Tamas' job, and to my knowledge three finalists were offered trial weeks. Not sure if they've already played, though. So obviously I could be wrong, and the three finalists have already played but none of them was found worthy of the job. Thus, Tamas' job is being advertised again.
I know nothing. Just guessing! |

I dont see Gábor moving from the Principal chair for awhile,
I think Tamás is stepping down to the open position and that audition is for his chair. Martin Kretzer is stepping down after this season I believe(Correct me if i'm wrong) and there will be another audition for that position later _________________ Weimann Passion Bb

I rather regret adding stimulation for speculation in the absence of fact. But, I think "nextfamous..." has the most likely scenario.
I must say I wish Tamas stepping down a chair was not the case yet. If you've heard least year's Mahler 5 (Nelson, I think) or this January's Mahler 3 (Fischer), all I can say is "What a Sound!" (repeat that 3 times). Neither Tamas or Garbor should be permitted by law to be anything but principals--maybe the Euro court can step in... |
