Rich Willey has the books you are looking for:

1. Variations pn Clark's Second Study Volume 1
Goes thru the 7 modes of the major Scale

2 . Variations on Clarke's second Study Volume 2
Goes thru the 7 modes of the ascending melodic minor scale.

Everything is written out so you can sit down and start woodshedding right away.

They are available at:

www.boptism.com

I believe Rich has a sale going on for TH members at the moment.

I've been doing them in all major, minor, whole-tone, and augmented by ear for years now. I should've written this book!!

Does anybody know of a published trumpet/cornet study book with the Clarke Technical Studies written in Minor keys?

Allen Vizzutti's book 1 does have a good set of technical studies in both sets of keys.

However I would also love to add a minor key version of the Clarke book to my daily routines.

I've had various teachers in the past that introduced me to playing studies (including Clarke, Stamp, others) in minor variations. They never wrote the exercises out differently, but just expected me to think of the notes on the page differently, Iimagine a different key signature there, adapt it on the fly as you play, etc.

The underlying expectation is you know major/minor variations for scales fairly well, of course, or it will take a little longer to get there. Early on, it may mess with your head a fair bit, but with practice, it actually starts to work fairly quickly.

Doing this sort of thing with exercises and other forms of printed music from time really seems to help you move around better on the horn in various keys after a while. I know it feels better to write it all out (or have someone do it for you) early on, but it's actually a bit of a crutch in a way. Doing it in your head actually is beneficial. You don't have to do it all at once, or even in the 'harder' keys as you get used to it. Start out with the easiest ones, and gradually add a few more into your routine.

Not claiming to be an expert, nor am I faulting you for your question in any way, just recommending that you give it a try. I think you'll be surprised how quickly it starts to pay off.

I wrote my "Technical Studies..." book back in the '70s when I was frustrated to find that most of my students at that time didn't have the patience to simply alter the existing Clarke studies without me writing them out for them. I'm not doing myself any favors when I say that you'd actually be better off modifying the studies yourself...although there is tons of other material in that book and in my "Trumpetology" that you might find useful.

Buy Pat's book if you cannot learn them by ear. It's easy to read and should provide some boost to your improv chops as well as you develop not only the technique, but also the melodic sound.

As per an "expert" in any endeavor, I've found over time that it generally is anyone with some sort of audience who is more than 25 miles away from his/her home, at least until one of his neighbors show up.

Jay gives away an awful lot of great stuff on this site. We all ought to send him some but once in a while. You got a tip jar out there, Jay?
