Shedding a bit in the back yard. Its beautiful here and the weather isn't bad either.

OK trivia time. This is a picture of my jazz trumpet:

1947 Martin Committee #3
Chicago stamped Harmon mute
Gustav Heim #2 made by Franklin Holton and Company

What song am I playing right now?
It is from the famous trumpet player that used this equipment and recorded in the very year this horn was built. That year was 1947. What song did they record that year that had the Trumpet players name in the song title? What was the name of that group that recorded the song?

Dizzy didn't play on a Heim # 2, He played an Al Cass. The equipment is the hint.

Ok Miles... 1947, with Bird at that point.
Miles Ahead was 1957, Gil Evans....

Gonna keep thinking. Has to be a Miles and Bird song 🤔

Milestones is the correct song, Miles Davis is the Trumpeter. Still waiting on the name of the group that released the original recording on Savoy records. Hint: Parker was not the leader.

By the way, thanks for the nostalgia. I've been listening for the last couple of hours, to tons of older Miles I haven't listened to in years.

Everything through Miles "second great quintet" is so incredibly brilliant.

I did my time in my late high school/early college days listening to Miles electric records, while heavily experimenting with drugs. But since my head became clear, I can't stomach those recordings from that era, or anything up until the last retro concert with Q in Montreal

But those records from the Bird years in the 40s through the last recordings with Wayne Shorter, are unbeatable no matter how many times I've listened to them.

Excellent trivia question, but my annoying correction: Miles was using a cup mute on that tune, not harmon.
