If you try to do a search for threads on a particular topic it never returns threads with that topic, it only brings up threads where the searched term shows up somewhere in the thread.

You can do the site: trumpetherald.com searchwhatever but why doesn't the search feature here do the job?

I have a good mind to ask for my money back.

Because the site software is ancient... it's a wonder this board functions at all.

And really, as you say, you can just use google anyway, so does it really matter?

I use Google like this, site:trumpetherald.com ~search phrase

You can also use Google Advanced Search, https://www.google.com/advanced_search

Of course it matters - America was *founded* on working site search functions!

If search functions don't work, you know what that leads to? Communism! That's what it leads to buster!

Or at least it's less convenient.

It turns out that building a world-class search function is very difficult. Maybe that's the reason Google is worth $527 billion.

Because there's a URL for each topic, but not for each post within a topic. The software builds an index of keywords with links to each topic in which the keyword appears.

There's an option in the lower left of the search form to show search results as posts or topics. Showing posts in the search results might bring you a little closer to what you want by showing the first part of each post. You can also bump the default initial display word count up from 200 to 500 or something to see more of each post.

Once you click a search result and land in a topic, you can use your browser's CTL-F feature to search for the keyword within the thread.

Or you could just use Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo.com or whatever to search with site:trumpetherald.com as part of your search phrase.

You keep using that word. It doesn't mean what you think it means.
