|
|
I found a music shop consignment King Super 20 Master Cornet that was a closet queen for 350 dollars. I snapped it up and have been playing it quite a bit. I quickly noticed that all of my cornet mp's bottom out or very nearly bottom out in the receiver. I wonder if this is normal for this model? It is a late 1950's model. Placing a piece of paper around the shank seemed to help some with slotting. |

Look down the list in cornet topics and you will see a discussion about this. _________________ Richard

My post from a thread down the page from here:
Yes. I had my uncle's cornet for decades until my cousin (his granddaughter) wanted it, and I shipped it out. Yes, H. N. White had their own mouthpiece shank taper until at least the mid to late '50's. Yes, only the proprietary mouthpieces fit without wobble. I was able to get an M2 (similar to between a 1 1/2 C and a 3C) and an MC (deeper funnel cup) off Ebay some years ago inexpensively. They are quite expensive now.
The only other options are 1) have your favorite mouthpiece model sleeved and re-machined to the proprietary taper, or 2) install a modern receiver with the now-standard Bach taper. _________________ King Super 20 Trumpet; Sov 921 Cornet

Thanks. I saw your thread shortly after I posted. Really good information. I think I'll send out a mouthpiece to Reeves for cutting and sleeves. |

Try Mark Curry. I bet he already knows the taper to use and can get you a 'piece made up tout suite.

Not familiar with the GR's. Is it a short shank or more like the longer Bach shank? _________________ a few different ones |

The short shanks work if you jam them in really hard but they don't really fit. The angle is wrong. Period pieces really work better and the sound is just plain lovely. _________________ Richard
