Won a bid on a buescher aristocrat trumpet. Looked up the serial number
103...

Wondering how old the trumpet is, researching serial number places it in
1922-1923. Any thoughts?

Yes, you can't trust that serial number.

Right before that trumpet was manufacturered, the Elkhart line that Buescher made for the past decade was discontinued. It used a separate serial number list. They just used up the valve blocks already assembled and numbered.

Your trumpet was made in the early 1960s.

Thank you for the information. Thought it was probably made in the 1960s.
Looking forward to playing this trumpet, after numerous bids, finally had a successful bid.

Waiting on arrival of trumpet. It comes with a Bach 5 mouthpiece. Any hints on playing this trumpet?

Nothing you need to watch out for, just don't overblow it, very efficent and when you overblow, it will shut down on you.

As with ANY new horn... start softly and gently and work your way up.

Buescher Aristocrat trumpet arrived yesterday. The valves look new. The finish was in bad shape with a few minor dings.

So I give all of the trumpet a warm bath and disinfected it. Then give a hot bath to the trumpet, without slides etc. Most of the finish came off and I plan to give it another hot bath soon. Eventually I may get it refinished.

Where would I find a screw for the third ring?

It sounds great very impressed with this trumpet. Definitely one of my best trumpet purchases.

My straight mute doesn't work on this trumpet. Any suggestions.

try the ACE hardware store in your area. ask for an 8/32 "thumbscrew for a lighting fixture in a kitchen. they use them to hold the glass dome on around the light blubs. you can also get a pack of three or four or just individually.
this is what I use on all of my $50 ambassadors.

also works as a poor man's high note attenuator

No, that's not the right size. It's 6-36.

Your local tech can get you one. If you want a custom-made one that is nearly identical to original, I sell them.
