Both did blatting clown-around routines with trumpet, could either actually play? I see Barbutti could play accordion and piano for real, can't find him doing anything but honking on trumpet.
Jerry was a pretty decent singer in his younger days, don't find any examples of him playing an instrument for real.
For that matter did Steve Allen ever advance beyond dabbling on trumpet I've seen examples of? _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

Barbutti could play. However, most of the times I saw him in Vegas, the trumpet was a prop. _________________ 92bach

Josh Landress has a bit of trumpet history for sale that applies to this thread. I sincerely hope Jerry doesn't need the cash, but maybe this sheds some light on to his relative abilities, or at least whether he's been keeping up practice at 91...
Comedic geniuses all, but everything's funnier with a trumpet!
