I know it's strange but being relaxed doesn't come naturally to me and I have trouble with tension when I breathe. It's there when I inhale so, of course, it's there when I exhale. A full exhale to exhaust as much air from my lungs as possible before breathing to play seems to allow me a more natural breath. I understand Mr. Adam preferred the least complicated and most natural connection with music and that relaxed breathing is a big part of that process. I also know I should probably get around to reading The Breathing Book, and it's on the list, but can anyone provide some insight on this perspective?

I'll have more time to reply later, but off hand...

Tension needs to be minimized (which doesn't mean there isn't energy). I see lots of lazy breathing under the motto of "relaxation."

Our first goal is a relaxed sound. A relaxed breath follows naturally from there.

When that basketball player comes to the free throw line they invariably take a breath to relax.
