While Morrison's final note is almost an octave higher, the end of this Maurice Andre clip still blows my mind ever time I see it (disclaimer - sorry the video quality is terrible and quirky, I didn't upload it. Also, if you're going to skip to the end of the video, at least watch the last 30 seconds to get the full effect):

Granted, the church he's playing in is acoustically favorable and the cinematic surprise at the end potentially helps him seem extra impressive, but still, that's an inspiring finish to a piece! _________________ 1919 King Liberty

That's the late great Lew Soloff on the intro and outro solos as well!!
I love that album, my favorite Faddis stuff is his studio and commercial work. His modern stuff is great with all the retro jazz, but I loved his sound and style back in the 70s and early 80s best!! |
