I'm watching the Tony's and I don't see a pit. Tell me they aren't canning the music....

OK. They're to the side of the stage.

Same section as last year, right? Must be nice to have a steady gig.

Think they left their horns set up, so as to save time when they go back next year?

That's only when the Tony's are at the Beacon Theater, like they have been for the past 2 years. As far as I know, they've always been live in Radio City (somewhere in the building).

Well, in 2010 they were at clinton, and the show was at radio city..for sure..I was just guessing that 2009 was the same(guess I was wrong),but in 2010 thats the way it worked out. Once again advanced technology works its way..Wonder what they will do next as Clinton closed.don`t know of any soundstage studios in ny anymore, but I guess they could do it from any dark bway pit,or stage for that matter.Takes the nads off a live show like the tonys.Sad thing is the under 30 part of the audience woudnt notice the difference

There is very little young adult demographic composition, or demo comp in media speak, in the Tony Awards telecast. It's largely a 50+ or 55+ audience. Then again, so is everything else on CBS prime.

actually, that year there were some younger acts, for example actors/singers from the show "Glee" with a big band on stage..Lots of people from that generation(20s/30s) in the audience. Might be the first time they saw a big band live.

Does anyone have a clue about how big the pit bands for the Tony Awards are in total?

Btw, really surprising they use four trumpets....even for a whole symphony orchestra four are quite a lot. Guess the average usually is about two trumpets in pit bands?

I mean, sometimes there are some big band like cues, for which you most likely need a minimum of three trumpets I guess, just like this one:

...but the opening number cues (which are always legendary without a doubt) sound more like 2-3 trumpets to me, if at all.
