The most basic form of note production in TCE is the spit attack. Spit buzzing is a way to get the correct feel of the initial setup. The sound created can also be used to tell if your tongue is in the right place.

Once you can spit buzz then do it into a trumpet and you'll have a clear, centred attack.

When done correctly, the spit buzz quickly builds both tongue strength and lip grip. The sound of the spit buzz lets you know if you are headed in the right direction. Spit buzz scales and simple tunes while always concentrating on rock-steady pitch. Remember, no air attacks!

Additionally, the spit buzz is a great exercise when a horn is not handy: while driving, in-between classes, on vacation, etc. Lastly, the spit buzz is 1/2 of a good warmup: spit buzz for a couple minutes, then 3-4 minutes of Jerry's Yoga. That's all that should be needed for an MSC player to be ready for any downbeat. Do the spit buzz in the car on the way to the gig.
