Any idea what flu gel mouthpiece Till Bronner is using here? See closeup around 3:07. I've seem may shots of him using this piece, can't figure out what it is. I asked Thomas and Susy Inderbinen and they said they had no idea, "ask Till." But I have no contact info for him…. _________________ Dan Pearlman

Looks like an old Besson piece. I make one in my line based off a 1890's version. Roy seems to have a similar one. My ACB version has a super sharp vintage style rim but what a sound! I'm tweaking them to be matched up to modern rims but the sound isn't quite to my liking yet. _________________ http://austincustombrass.biz

Maybe this one
Bruno Tilz (that´s what he plays on Trumpet)
They make pretty deep Flügelhorn Pieces (almost French-horn like) _________________ Greatings from Germany

Are you just interested in knowing the piece, or how to get the soft smoky timbre? If the latter, maybe the better question is what is available these days to help achieve that? Outside of the extreme FOWT and deep Currys which at least for me create intonation and range limitation issues, I have only found the Patrick to get close to that kind of timbre without other issues. Then there's the whole question of what is Till's embouchure set up... _________________ Been here before...

Yes, yes… Both Roy Hargrove and Till are using similar pieces and Inderbinen did not make them, so I was curious... _________________ Dan Pearlman

I do have the Oakes Xtreme and Curry FL pieces, both have their good and troublesome points as you say. I'd certainly like to try the Patrick... _________________ Dan Pearlman

I have searched this out for awhile myself. Obviously not a commercailly made mouthpiece and I could not find a vintage one that matched either. The overall shape looks like a La Tromba mouthpiece. I tried contacting the company and they said I would have to wait. Perhaps someone who knows more about these and could add info to this mystery.
On another subject of his(TB) trumpet mouthpiece:Once I got the correct rim/cup/back bore figured out I ended up switching from Monette to Bruno Tilz. I realize a more true trumpet sound that was as easy and secure to play as a Monette at a fraction of the cost even with shipping and EFT costs to Germany. I love Monette but I love the sound of the Tilz piece so much more. Goes back to the idea that you should play what works best and sounds best-for you- and forget about all the manufacturer hype. |

I know this is an old thread but it seems that Till made a switch on the flugelhorn mouthpiece.
Here he use the old "vintage" Besson mpc together with the Inderbinen flugelhorn:

But here the flugelhorn is different and the mouthpiece as well. Anyone who would venture a guess?

When looking at 45:58 I actually suspect Tilz here. 301 Nea series. Since it's a bit bulgy and has the grooves behind the rim.
