It just one the Tony for best Revival last year. Small band(8 piece), Brian Pareschi played trumpet on Broadway. I imagine it will be on tour next year, probably using mostly local union musicians in the bigger cities.

In typical Broadway producer mentality of MAKE MORE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES, the original Color Purple orchestra was pared down from 18 musicians to 8.

Three trumpets down to one.

And once again, Broadway announced (and fairly recently, too), that there was record setting attendance and ticket sales for the previous year. So they gots the money. They just don't wanna spread any around to the musicians.

I'll be playing trumpet for the upcoming tour. I was just wondering if any of y'all played it before. Mutes, doubles, anything that's super tricky? I've listened to the revival recording & it sounds fairly easy. (a nice change of pace from playing WSS 8 shows a week).

I'll give Brian Pareschi a call on Tuesday, will let you know what he says.

I know it calls for flugel.

I remember the National Tour of The Color Purple locally a few years ago, but this was when it was written for two trumpets. Since Tim (Wendt) mentions it was originally for three in the section, I had to double check the spreadsheet from our local contractor reflecting such, but it was for two players, at least at that time...

Just heard back from Brian. He's pretty busy this week with his regular show and playing in the Tony Awards band (lots of rehearsals this week).

"Nothing really crazy on the show. Only high stuff are in the opening number - 2 Ebs.

Great show to play, beautiful music."

So there ya go! Sounds like you'll have a fun & enjoyable pit experience on the show.

Great gig. Congrats. Willl you be playing in the larger cities too. I know the show will be coming through SF next season. Most of the national tours coming through town use mostly local union musicians.
