I was watching a bit of an old movie from the early 60's yesterday called Johnny Cool. The soundtrack was by Billy May and featured a screaming trumpeter on one selection.
I know Maynard did studio work but I believe he was out of that line of work when this movie was made. The only other names I know of from that era who had that kind of range would have been Cat Anderson and Bud Brisbois.
I don't think Cat did that kind of work in the early 60's. That leaves Bud as my guess. Anyone have an answer?

Thanks. I didn't see the whole movie as I was channel surfing and came in halfway through. The music was great and Sammy Davis sounded great as he always did.
It looks like a good flick. Henry Silva has always been such an underrated actor.
As for Bud, what can you say. He was such a good all round player and not just a high note guy. I wish I had gotten to hear him live. Like many here, I heard Maynard live many times. I also heard Cat Anderson once in person with Lionel Hampton in 73-74. He was featured a lot and was a really good jazz player as well.

A real gem in the field of 1960's Pop music is a recording of Bud's which I only heard yesterday.

On Youtube search,
