I recently was able to download this recording from Emusic after having difficulty finding the recording for a while. Its a great deal and legal---The downside is that they do not provide credits to the performers.
If anyone could provide me with the performers who recorded on this project it would be appreciated!
I can't get started, immortalised by the late Bunny Berigan, offers a showcase for each of Tutti's "Trumpets". Tutti has used Bunny's cadenza with Pete Candoli and Joe Triscari hitting the "lows" and Conrad Gozzo and "Shorty" Sherock hitting the "highs". Uan Rasey and Mannie Klein then join the others on the chorus as each man fans out, forming a five way harmony in the group.
Stardust is not on the album...............

Thank You!
Shorty Sherock----I had never heard of this this trumpet player. I did a search on his name and only found that he used to play with Gene Krupa.
He is a great player----All these guys are just a class act.
The story goes that Uan Rasey was the only player who didn't have any solos because he played all of the lead parts. As for the solo at 2:06 my guess is that it is Pete Candoli. Hope that helps! _________________ Benge 2x Burbank 1965

WOW!! Sorry I can't answer your questions on the players, but thank you for sharing!! That is the sound I'm always striving for and LOVE to hear.
Just beautiful stuff man. Thanks again for turning me on to these recordings
Yeah, man! The trumpet playing on this album is really something else.

I'm not sure why but I had always assumed that soloist was Conrad Gozzo. Seems like a written out lead line much like Trumpeter's Prayer. And...it sounds like him to me! _________________ Scott Apelgren

Interestingly related to Toots' release above were the series of big band/swing revival releases from Capitol starting in 1958 under the guise of Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra. Really that was just a nod to his band name from the previous generation (for which Toots was the arranger), and actually comprised the best Hollywood studio musicians of the late '50s. The trumpet section once again included Conrad Gozzo, Shorty Sherock and Cappy Lewis.
What I like about the tracks in this subsequent compilation is that they're the *original arrangements* of the big band classics - no 'modern updating' - but far superior recordings in the stereo technology of the late '50s, and by those expert Capitol engineers. Of course The Goz is incredible remaking all those classic solos (of Bobby Hackett and all the rest). My favorites: I Can't Get Started, around 9:15, In the Mood (following), Memories of You, around 23:00, Song of India, but the whole album is worth listening...
