Hi friends!

A dear friend gave me a Selmer Radial trumpet recently. Long story short, I want to try and put it back into top condition and play it as his funeral. He is in very poor health and I may only have a month or less (I hope more, we have been great friends for 30 years, and I want my friend around longer).

There are several parts missing off the trumpet that need replacement. I am trying to find those parts. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

All my best,

AL

What is missing Dr. Lilly? That may help us locate something.

Al,

So sorry to hear about your friend. Please send my shop tech an email (repairs@austincustombrass.com) and tell him I sent you. Not sure we have anything but we have had a lot of Radials in the shop over the years.

Best,
T

I have a few of these...I think your best source is a sacrificial horn. That's my experience. Selmer is no help. I know of no other source.

The biggest two things are a third valve slide ring and the screw that secures it in place. A main tuning slide would be great, but if I cannot find a way to get the one here to work, I will get MK Drawing to make me a new one.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Trent,

Thanks man! It's no fun getting older. We taught together a long time years ago, his son was a student of mine from grade 6-12, and his grandson takes lessons now with me. It's hard watching the diabetes take it's toll, partly because it's my friend, and partially because I too am diabetic, and see this a warning of what could happen to me without some serious changes. Fortunately, I've made those changes and an controlling it. My friend did not...

I'll drop a note to the shop, and thank you so very much for your kind and generous offer!

I have a strong feeling that you may be right. If I can't go that way, I am going to see if MK Drawing can make a new main tuning slide, and remove the third valve slide ring and replace with a fixed ring from another maker.

Thanks for your thoughts, I am hoping!

Al,

I have in front of me right now a slide ring, mount and screw in silver plate. Its yours for the asking. Just send me your address and it will be on it's way. I had the ring replaced on my radial with a fixed ring.

Friends,

Thanks to Bucaneer61, I now have a third valve ring and the attachment for that ring, all installed and working great! We're getting closer to getting this horn back to playing condition! Encouraging news on my friend's health, he has improved, but is still in very critical condition! But he did recognize be when we talked this week, so....steady as she goes.

Thanks again Bucaneer61!

Al
