I learned this from a great teacher years ago. Hold the horn with mouthpiece off your chops and buzz a middle G. Bring the horn into contact with your chops and hold that not as a long tone. I do this for about 2-3 minutes and then start playing. You can either go up the scale or just hang on to that G. Great warm up to get your lips vibrating and it also helps set up your chops to where they should be on the mouthpiece.

So buzzing is bad, because you could be playing the trumpet instead. And even discussing buzzing is bad, because you could be playing the trumpet instead. No. I never suggested anything like that.
