I have a 40's vintage Martin Committee that I love. But I'm having a curious prolem with the valve stem on the first piston. It won't stay tight. I play a little, and I feel it loosen. I tighten it, and it happens again. Any suggestions? _________________ 1945 Martin Committee

you could always use a drop of Loc-tite, available at must home improvement centers and hardware stores or the web. there are different types for different strengths, get a lite weight one, so you can take it apart when you need to clean it.

I second Krell1960's suggestion.
I had a similar situation and I used the weakest strength lock tight.
A single drop on the threads will do it. No more than a drop!
It won't loosen up until YOU need to take it apart.
And, you can get it anywhere.
Best of luck! _________________ Several Trumpets and Flugelhorns!

I have used locktite blue on my son's Bach's third valve stop rod nuts. One drop, screw on the nut and it stays until you decide to remove it.
It should work like a charm in your case too. |

I have a Schilke 3rd slide screw stop that won't stay tight. Will that stuff work on a silver plated thread like that? _________________ Craig Mitchell |

Yup. Both the threads and nuts on my son's Bach were silver plated. |
