I am currently looking for a mouthpiece that is similar to bach 5c and makes my upper register sound brighter. If anyone could suggest some mouthpieces that would be great. Thanks

Similar in what way? Rim shape? ID? Cup shape?

What kind of playing are you doing with it? Are you look for a second piece to use alongside the 5c for different genre's or are you looking to just replace it?

This place is GI-GO sometimes... The more details you include, the better the responses you'll get are (you'll probably still get some that amount to "I use X, try it").

Dennis Wick 5 C, Schlike 14 C, Giardinelli 5C, Yamaha 14 C4.

I have experience with the Dennis Wick and Schlike 14 C trumpet mouthpieces. Liked the Dennis Wick mouthpieces. For me the Dennis Wick mouthpieces play better.

Now, I am focusing on playing the cornet. Do like my Bach 5 C, but love my Yamaha cornet mouthpieces much better.

Add to the list Curry 5C. For a slightly shallower cup, you could try out a Purviance 5*K4.

From what I've been told the Curry 5C is pretty similar. And that changing to a shallower/brighter cup (DE, ZM, STAR,...) preserves the rim feel, unlike with Bach pieces.

Sorry I did forget to include that. I really like the shape of the rim. Just trying to find something that'll give me a brighter sound in the upper register

I tried a Bach Commercial 3S because someone on here said it cut their lip. No cut lip but I can get a big sound out of it. I find it to be a really comfortable mp.

Is this bright enough?

Try a Schilke 13a4a. That mouthpiece has worked for me the last few years. Opens up everything up top and gives it an edge. I used this and a Bach 3C for almost everything in my undergraduate college performances. Shouldn't be too big of an adjustment from your Bach 5C.

Thank you. I've been looking at the schilke 13a4a for a while now

We have this same G cup in a Bach 5 rim. This will do what you are asking.

Definitely "defiently" - defiantly.

Certainly spelled wrong, with attitude

I am posting for the first time, though I have been a long-time reader of the wisdom on this forum. I am amazed that this query came up today, since I want to ask a similar question. If it is inappropriate for me to add my query to this one, please let me know and I will start a new thread.

I returned yesterday from a trip to Japan, where I frequently go for work. It is one of the best places in the world for buying used instruments. I had some time so I treated myself to a day in Ochanomizu at the used instrument shops. I had intended to just try a whole bunch of trumpets, but I came home with a Schilke X3L Arturo Sandoval model in silver plate after playing lots of horns in various shops. The horn seems to have hardly ever been played, original case brand new, really like a new horn, no mark on the MP, no wear at all. It was love at first blow when I played it and after comparison with many others in various stores, more open and less open, larger and smaller bore, Bach, Kanstul, Yamaha, etc. I could not leave it behind. (I was starting my horn shopping because I recently have gotten much more serious about my playing, but I guess I am done for awhile.)

Anyway, I have played on a Bach 5C since the mid-60's in grade school (since 1999 on a Yamaha YTR-4335G). But with this new horn, I feel a need for a little more openness. The Schilke 12 with the horn is smaller than my 5C (which the store attendant called "vintage" -- I guess that makes me vintage too). I tried a Yamaha equivalent (14C4?) at the store which let the horn open up a little. I realized that I could go for something more open without losing control. The Schilke 12 is a little small for me, but it does have a more open throat, though not really more open.

I wonder if the recommendations here would apply to this case too. I just want to use the openness of the horn a little more. I play a wide variety of music, from a church band, to classical to baroque. I know this is a jazz player's design, but it just felt right for me. (Surprised the heck out of me that I liked it so much and did not like the more resistant "classical" horns.) Other really open horns like the Yamaha Eric Miyashiro model (with its multibore construction), etc. were too much for me. I am not after that wide open or screaming jazz sound, but just a little more open to take advantage of the horn. I want to keep a very clean sound that I can darken if I want and sing through the horn if I want, just a little more open.

Sorry for the long post, but I thought a little info might help.
