Here is an interesting demonstration of one player, Tony Kadleck, playing one horn, with the same mouthpiece rim and cup diameter, but different cups and backbores.

Check out Tony playing his GR Mouthpieces from deepest to shallowest:
FD to S. Notice how his sound remains big and fat through the entire series.

Sounds great. I know this is about the mouthpieces, but does anyone know what horn he's playing in the video?

I think Tony just plays on a 6335 Yamaha. Medium weight horn.

The take away from these videos are:
Tony is a superb trumpet player that has great high chops.

Great lead player.....But, what separates him from many others is just how well he plays the horn.

I don't know what horn he was playing in the video but Shires does have him listed as an artist playing the CLW.

Is Tony still playing GR pieces? I don't see his signature line listed on their website.

Tony's signature line is still in the works but you can contact Tony and place orders. Demand is so high at GR that we are working over 16 hours a day just to keep up!

Great stuff! In terms of rim shape and cup diameter, what do Tony's mouthpieces compare to?

Tony came to see GR on a Sunday. Neither knew what to expect, although, Wayne Bergeron and Steve Emery supported the event.

GR did the original protocol with Tony and treated him to the process. The horn inspection, playing tests, diagnosis and analysis was done that day. After all the testing GR took mouthpieces that worked pretty well and started crunching the numbers. Actually, the parameters.

The designs have a completely original rim created with the GR parameters. It's in the .656 diameter with a little softer bite, high point a bit further out than something like a 3ish rim. The outside diameter is moderate with a good balance for free vibrations and maximum support.

All the cups are totally GR math. Similar to the S, M, and MX.

GR said the most remarkable thing about Tony is he was playing the S cup and played a nice phrase to a fat in tune double C and said, "I haven't played one like that in years". A few minutes later GR gave him his C trumpet and Tony busted off Bartok as good as any major orchestral principle player. Tony was one of the finest musicians GR has worked with. Tony still wants to be a baseball player, he does a pretty good job hitting it out of the park in any venue.
