|
|
I'm looking for a website I found when I was in college for soloing over changes. It was interesting because you could type in the chord changes, and it would give you a pretty hefty list of ideas for lines to play over them. It was a great website for someone like me who isn't the best at soloing to get ideas to build off of and inspiration. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks in advance |

Closest thing that I am aware of would be LearnJazzStandards.com |

Man, I need a site like that like yesterday.
A friend of mine had me buy and download the irealpro app the other day, but I haven't learned how to navigate it too well, and, it doesn't offer suggested licks.
Watching this and hope someone comes up with the site. _________________ For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? - 1 Cor 14:8 |

One thing you might mean is Improvisor (https://www.cs.hmc.edu/~keller/jazz/improvisor/), though this is a standalone program. I haven't used it but it looks interesting.
I also remember a site which was typeset using Lilypond which contained loads of bebop licks. You could type in a progression and it would generate a lick for you. I can't remember what the site was called and am not sure if it still exists. It introduced me to Lilypond and I now use it for typsetting all my charts.

Probably not what you're looking for, but the Band In A Box program will fill in a sample melody line over any chord changes you plug in. I haven't used the program in about 8 years, but at the time it had options for "Freddie Hubbard" and "Charlie Parker" that actually did a pretty darned fine job of mimicking their sound. It was fun to play around with, and would do precisely what you describe.
I have no idea if this feature is still included in the 2017 version.
Cheers. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I think the site I was trying to think of was http://www.bopland.org.
It looks a bit different to the way I remember it, but has similar content.

Why not just put on real music and play along? _________________ Richard

Huh, interesting. That could be a fun resource if it gets built out more. Like, if I have a quick 30-minute window to practice, learn a lick in all 12 keys. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Oh I definitely did/do that too! But, as someone who was mainly a lead player and never really worked on soloing, sometimes it helped me to hear an already established idea. I would usually learn the lick the website gave, then try to find a way to spin it with my own style without making it lame

That's pretty much it! Definitely looks different than 10 years ago, but it's the same idea. Thanks! |

Nah he'd just tell me to stop goofing off and hit the shed. If he remembers me that is |
