It stands to reason that anyone on the list of serious candidates would have already been invited to play as guest principal. I've read that the following have been guest principals. Vosburgh, Hooten, Krauss, Williams. Any others that folks know of?

My opinion certainly doesn't matter, but I think it would be good if selection committees only heard the people auditioning without knowing anything else about them. It is supposed to be about the music after all.

Right, but when it comes down to it, music is a dirty, political industry.

Bill Williams, but I'm taking his name off the list.

No apologies. Unlike most of the other posters here, you actually have information to share.

Esteban Batallan? Lots of videos on youtube which sound great.

The two trial weeks initially offered are now cancelled and they are going to start over with another audition. Sucks for the 2 remaining candidates.

Maybe I should come out retirement and fill the vacant position?? In the past I have been compared to Bud. A few years back I was in a recording session when the conductor stopped the Orchestra (a smallish ensemble) and demanded I play like Bud. However the following Bud impersonation was too much for him, but as the Principal trombone (ex Chicago) quipped 'well you asked him to sound like Bud'. I live in hope. I will send my details to the Chicago management.

Is there a reason they are starting over? If indeed Mark Inouye was one of the two they were considering I find it hard to believe he was deemed unfit for the job as he has had a decade of brilliant playing in the SFSO. But, then again, if they haven't found a horn player after 5 years of looking, perhaps this isn't surprising

Maybe he decided he didn't want the job after being in the section for a while? I haven't seen anything detailing any reasons pro/con from either side so far.
