Back in the early 70`s as a young trumpet player, I was listening
to all styles of music,From Miles to Maynards bands and everything in
between; I very much enjoyed bands like Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears
(Especially the 1st album) Bands like Ambergries, Ten Wheel Drive,Ides
of March,and of course, Tower of Power;
As those years moved forward we got to hear some fantastic writing from
Jerry Hey, whose stuff for Michael Jackson,Al Jareau and others was over the top killing..Why Im writing about this is a few days ago, I went back in time and youtubed a band that blew me away back then called "Dreams"which had very little commercial success, but was (in my mind) just as fantastic as anything I ever heard in that genre; The front line of young Randy and Mike Brecker along with the great Barry Rogers onTrombone put together some of the hippist horn lines I ever heard..And they were making the stuff up on the gigs!
If some of you young guys are interested, their albums are on youtube, and its amazing stuff IMO. Oh and in the band were greats like Billy Cobham, the late great John Abercrombie,The late great Don Grolnick, Will Lee and others
Check it out!

I loved Dreams. BTW, had Randy Brecher in it.
I would add Electric Flag to the list.
