When it comes to the 3E, you'd find the A4X to be closer (the A backbore is tight, your 3E has a 117 which is a big old backbore - in Schilke terms, the X is big).
The 14a4x would be a teeny bit narrower and a touch deeper than a 3E...
The 14a4 would have a medium backbore instead of the very large one.
The 14a4a would have a tight backbore.
14a4x, 14a4 and 14a4a all share the same rim and cup as each other.
Another you might find useful to look at is Curry - the 3. rim should be about right, but it might(!) feel wider because it doesn't have the very high alpha angle that a 3E does... We're well into individual perceptions, but a 3P (cornet - 3DE trumpet is the same cup) might feel wider even though it's not - still high register supportive but a bit more cup volume.
There's dozens of mouthpiece manufacturers and they have their different tendencies... The only way to know is to try... But how consistent your playing is and how stable (in terms of available progress and potential changes) will have a bearing on how worthwhile it is to experiment too much and how well you'd be able to judge what's best.
If it sounds complicated - it is.
And it isn't. |
