Thanks for posting that piece with Pete. He is a jewel and I've been lucky enough to know him and work several gigs with him. He's so unpretentious and a genuine unique talent. The fact that he is a serious musician only adds to his "inside" humor. The story about Mendez picking up his beat up trumpet and playing like it was a perfect horn is priceless.

If anyone recalls a thing he once did on Carson, bringing up volunteers from the audience.. four guys were on stage, asked by him to sing short phrases. Each part was rehearsed individually, and then bringing the second, third, and 4th parts in.. 4th instructed to sing an 1/8th note, on upbeat of 3 or 4. As they began to sing, he acted serious conducting with both hands, which made it much funnier, gesturing to the last guy for the upbeat note.
If not destroyed at the vault fire at NBC... may turn up. |

Saw Barbutti do a bit where he was playing Tenderly on a mic stand with a broom. He bent over, and when he came up, he had a cup mute in the broom. Fractured the audience. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

And once the cup mute was in place, Pete stroked the microphone very gently so there was a muted sound. Genius! |
