Allison Balsom is the best. Very simple question to answer. _________________ Lynn

Can't be Allison Balsom. She doesn't have any b***s. At least that's what my teacher told me.
No, it's Herb Alpert. His technique and depth of musicality is unpetalled. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

What an interesting way to describe someone’s abilities. Although “unpetalled” is a more flowery term than I personally would use. 😜 |

That's based on an actual experience. When I was in H.S. one of the state's best trumpeters was female. Her teacher talked her into switching to French Horn because she lacked the (harrumph) proper anatomical requisites for trumpet playing.
I said was him, BTW. (Not me.) _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Well… gee wiz I was kidding too. Sheesh and Sheesh.
And yes I understand the old biases. I was in NJ All State Region II orchestra (central jersey) and got 1st chair and conductor said he didn’t want a girl playing trumpet. Other orchestra directors told him he couldn’t do that. This was in 1975.
My mom went to Julliard and when she went to get a teaching job (in the early 60s) was told women couldn’t conduct band or orchestra, only chorus.
Things have changed for the better.

Balsam is a very, very technically proficient player. Excellent ... virtuoso.
I do not perceive that elusive character sometimes referred to as "soul" ... or, emotion, in her playing.
Similar to Allen Vizzutti. Perhaps, Marsalis, as well.
As if AI was playing (?). _________________ Sub-Optimal Hillbilly Jazz |
