I'm considering a Curry Flugel MP and am interested in folk's experience with the universal shank, my horn takes a larger morse taper.

It should definitely work in a large(er) Morse taper receiver.

My Couesnon became much easier to play, with better intonation and range, after I switched from the regular Bach taper (wrong taper!) to a Curry French taper (actually straight) 3C FL-F.
Can't speak for the newer universals.
