Hi everybody, I am giving a recital this weekend at school and the first piece on the chopping block is Enesco's Legend. I am writing up my program notes now and was wondering if anyone could give me some backgroud on the piece for my program notes. Thanks guys (and gals). _________________ ~Perry Sutton~ |

Here are some short program notes that I wrote last fall for the Enesco Legend:
An accomplished composer, teacher, conductor, and solo violinist, Enesco is considered the greatest of Romanian musicians. Born in 1881 in Romania, Enesco began violin studies at the Vienna Conservatoire at the age of seven. Following his graduation at the age of eleven, he began composition studies at the Paris Conservatoire. Enesco spent most of his career in Paris, aside from several extended trips to Romania, because of his personal opposition to the communist party in Romania. The C minor Legend (c. 1905) is clearly written in the French style, a reflection of the nearly forty years he spent in Paris. Many of the lyrical sections in this work are reminiscent of a singing violin, Enesco’s favorite instrument. This piece is comprised of three slow sections based on similar melodic ideas, separated by two faster, more rhapsodic episodes.
You may also want to check out this site, it has some additional info on him: http://www.thirteen.org/publicarts/violin/enesco.html

Thanks so much for the notes. I will also be playing a Suite of Renaisannce Madrigals for Brass quintet, the Hummel Concerto in Eb, and the "Trumpet Shall Sound" from Messiah. _________________ ~Perry Sutton~ |

Sounds like a great program. In fact, I gave a very similar junior recital last fall. I played a Handel Suite in D (picc.), the Hummel Concerto (on Eb) and the Enesco Legend. Is this recital for college?

If you want any info on any composer, the place to check out is http://www.grovemusic.com - admittedly, you need a password, but the information is excellent.
Or you can just ask me to access it, when I have more time than I do this morning!! |
