Hey Everyone,
I have been doing Adams Routine for a while now and I sometimes dont feel like I am doing the leadpipe blowing right. When I play on the leadpipe I feel like I am not getting the right resonant sound. If anyone knows of any good ways of listening to yourself during the leadpipe blow, with any sort of catalyst words to help signal proper resonance that would be really great!!!! THanks a lot =) |

I think the "secret" is to sing the sound confidently and let it fly! I usually plunk an Eb on the piano and think about "sending it". I strongly urge you to find a teacher that has studied with Mr. Adam and have a lesson (hundreds are better) with him/her to hear THAT sound. I would sometimes just sit outside my teachers door and listen to him play the routine with another student just to get reoriented to what I should be striving for: THAT SOUND. |

Yeah the leadpipe thing throws me too. I feel tighter if I do it first thing, but if I do the mouthpiece alone first I feel great (Adam would cringe!).
I'm convinced that lessons with the right person is the answer to this problem because it's an individual solution. There's five million ways to do something right, but there's only one that's best for you. A good teacher will help you discover that efficiently. |

Hearing the sound demonstrated is everything in this. One lesson with Adam would fix this for you. Heck, you still live in town for a few more weeks and he's in the phone book!

Senea,
You are in Bloomington and you haven't had a lesson with Adam? I travel 1000 miles each way just to spend a few days with him. Don't miss this opportunity or you will regret it for the rest of your life. Wake up!

Clarification, Senea has been driving from Louisiana to get lessons with Rommel and Adam. She will start a doctorate at IU in the fall and will then be "fully immersed".
I was speaking to Ryan (jazzmcazz), who has spent the last 4 years in Bloomington.

Actually,
I just graduated and moved out the day of graduation. I am now at home in NY for the summer. I am dumb (very) for not catching up with Mr Adam and when I attend UofL I will DEFINITELY be calling Mr Adam up and meeting up with you ,Prof. Harbison, for lessons next year. |
