You know I don't care much for Wyntons playing most of the time but his Version of this piece is great...his multiple tounging is perfect for this piece....it sounds like dropping a mallet on a timpani it just bounces, just let your tounge float on your air, let the notes run into one another... play them that long. Even though this piece is technically challenging don't forget it is a piece of music, play it that way...musically.

Rule No. 1 = Max speed is the fastest speed at which you can play it and still make it sound musical.

Rule No. 2 = Play the Clarke version so you can blow through the pyrotechnics using index finger only for all of the single valve notes.

Rule No. 3 = Don't worry about the high F until you get to it and then NAIL IT!

I love to listen to the Mendez and Marsalis recordings of this piece.
