Where does he fit in the early 20th century American trumpet scene? Anybody know? Thanks, Gregg

Hello!

I happen to be the owner of a William Frank cornet. Sheperd's crook. It's my understanding that this was a pro horn. Mine is VERY old and currently in pieces being rebuilt. I purchased it on ebay for $27. And it is a good player! My only problem was the slides were all horribly stuck.

I'm not sure precisely WHO William Frank was (I assume he has long since died) but his firm was in Chicago. I've looked around the internet for an answer to this but yet to have found anything specific. No serial number lists, etc.

That's about all I can tell you.

Tim

OK, Tim, that's about where i am at with them, too. Nice looking older horns - but I haven't bought one yey...Been sorely tempted a few times, but not yet. Another older horn I would like to know more about is York.

Well, the only one I can tell you about is mine...and I haven't seen it in a long time -- the guy who is fixing it has it apart and hasn't had the time to complete it yet. However, I do remember the valves were very fast.

I can't help with Huttl but here's a good York site:

I have a 1910 York that is the oldest modern style trumpet I have yet seen.

Bob:

If you EVER find a William Frank related article, let me know. ESPECIALLY if it has serial numbers. I know this cornet is OLD but just how old I have no idea.

THanks,

TIm

Not much to be found on Wm. Frank. Here's Lars Kirmser's serial number info, but it's pretty sparse:

Try reverse engineering through King band instruments info, there may be something there.
