All this talk of Northwestern being so "great". Come on, how about some love for Roosevelt! It's a FREAKIN' AWESOME school too! _________________ WAK

Ok guys, i have a big big question to ask - and would love all the help i could get:
im 21.5 years old, been playing trumpet for 10 years, started as a jazz guy but turned to classical 3 years ago. played in several youth orchestras and summer projects (nothings REALLY big) and had a few gigs as extra with the local pro's... just finished my army service (its mandatory here in israel - 3 years...) - ive been in THE army band (and by THE i mean the ONLY band in the israeli army . im starting school here next month (tel aviv univercity music academy)...
I DONT WANT TO DO THIS! im only starting here cause my folks made me do it ("you cant sit around for a whole year and do nothing" and of course the famous "you gotta have education...")
i want to study in the states... but i have a major problem - i dont know where and how to start. being over 21 makes me age out on several places (curtis...) and also makes me feel really old for an undergraduate... but thats life and i have to deal with it!
SOOOOOOOOOO.... any tips?
how do i start the whole procedure of signing up? when are the auditions? what schools are a "must-try-out"?
thanks in advance - i really appreciate the help! _________________ Yuval Shapiro

If you go to BYU, you will not feel out of place. Most male sophomores are 21. BEcause so many guys serve missions for the LDS church when they are 19, they will either start a year of school and go, or just start afterwards. and BYU music is great! 5th largest in the nation so I am told.
just my 2 cents. _________________ "All music is folk music. I ain't never heard no horse sing no song." - Louis Armstrong |

I don’t remember having to transpose the sight reading (I’m an undergrad), although maybe I just can’t remember. Pretty sure prospective grads must transpose. |
