Hi All,
Did anyone hear Aretha Franklin on the 4th of July with the National Symphony? She was nothing short of amazing. He vocal quality and "Dr Beat" like driving rhythm took the show to a new level. Especially thrilling was her obligato over "Ode to Joy". I have heard a rumor recently that she and Haken Hardenberger are going to do an album similar to the one Wynton Marsalis and Kathleen Battle did. I think this is a great idea. I think it will be on the Philips label by next Spring. When I heard about this project all I could say was "What on earth took them so long?"
until Next time

Which of Wynton's albums? I thought the soprano that he worked with on the albums was Edita Gruberova. I know that the live performances he did with Kathleen Battle but I'm almost certain that it's Edita Gruberova on the recordings.
Back to the subject though, it would be a pretty cool idea! _________________ Patrick Gleason

I stand corrected! I just looked up Wynton on Amazon.com and he did in fact do an entire duet album with Kathleen Battle BUT, he also did recordings with Edita Gruberova on "Wynton Marsalis - Baroque Music For Trumpet". (I already own this one) Here's the URL for that one.

Dang! Now there's another album that I have to buy.

I too have heard some similar rumors about aretha and haken but i never thought it was gonna happen. earlier in the year there was talk about a recording with haken and whitney houston. i think that one fell through because whitney was having some vocal problems big time. Can't wait for the new record! anything with aretha is awesome!
In peace,
