|
|
With my deepest sorrow, I report that Timofei Dokshizer has passed away earlier this afternoon.
I received word from his granddaughter, Anna, a few minutes ago.
He will be sorely missed.
Even in his upper years, Dokshizer was constantly involved with musical projects. He devoted his entire life to music. I recently received a letter from Timofei where we were discussing the possibility of the ITG publishing one of his books with an accompanying recording. And I have sitting here on my desk another letter that I haven't even had translated yet.
Dokshizer touched so many lives through his music and the example of the kind of person he was. How he approached life. How he approached success. How he approached failure. How he communicated through the medium of music. And I think more importantly, how he was "self-less" in all he did: saying that it is best to look at something as only "satisfactory" instead of letting oneself become puffed up over accomplishments.
Anna will inform me of plans. She said most likely, the memorial service will take place in Moscow.
Sincerely,
David Miller _________________ Dave M

Wow! That's terrible news and a huge loss for the music world. I was lucky enough to meet him in Kiev at a Euro-ITG conference. He autographed his autobiography for me! He was the consummate musician. He was always dressed in suit and tie, and carried hiimself like a pure gentleman. Both on stage and off stage, he commanded your respect and admiration.
We'll miss him.

Thank you so much for the info Dave. His recordings introduced me to the
Arutunian. What a sound! What marvelous technique! What a loss!

Sad to hear it, will put on my ITG CD and listen to this glorious performer once again. I just recently discovered his music, and will have to go back and listen to his earlier discography. |

I listened and got to know alot of things about Timofei Dokshizer, my favorite trumpet player through my teacher (David Miller). It was really sad to see a teacher to all of us pass away. We and the trumpet and music world will miss him. We all will.
This is really a sad day i would never want to see! _________________ "It's funny. All you have to do is say something nobody understands and they'll do practically anything you want them to." |

I too am deeply saddened by this news. I know he was in his 80s (born in 1921) but still, Timofei Dokshitzer is a legend and when legends die, it makes us all realize our own mortality.
My God bless him and his family. _________________ Patrick Gleason
