What are your experiences with a gold plated rim & cup? How does it change the feel of the mouthpiece?

In my opinion, it's smoother/more slippery. Some people say they can't feel a difference between silver + gold, but I can. It just feels different...for me, it felt alot nicer. both the pieces I use (Bach 1C + Bach 3C Megatone) are gold plated.

The mouthpiece feels warmer on your chops also.

If you play wet, you'll find that it's much easier to get through a rough gig on a GP mpc, but if you like the sticky feeling of silver, probably best to stick with it.

Gold feels more slippery. Smoother. But as a self identfied mpc safari follower, I can say that a new or newly polished silver mpc has about the same feeling.

Depends on your personal body chemistry. I can't STAND the feeling of silver, AND if I play for more than a few hours on a silver piece, it looks like I've got a pretty nasty sunburn on my chops.

I'm the same, I'm constantly cleaning my silver mp because if there's one spec of anything on it it drives me nuts. Would you guys recommending goldplating the one I have or buying a new one?

Depends on what mouthpiece you are playing. Unless cost doesn't matter to you. For example, it would be more worth it to buy a new one if your mouthpiece is relatively cheap. If not, would be better off to go get it plated. I can't really feel the difference between gold and silver except it is warmer temperarily then silver.

A friend of mine has just finished gold plating my mouthpiece. It was previously silver plated. I'll post any differences I notice when I get my mouthpiece back later this week.

how do you get a mouthpiece gold plated? I play a gold 1 1/2C with anything not marching band, and a gold 1C megatone in marching band, but I'm ordering the Canadian Brass signature lead MP soon, and its silver, and I'm gonna want to get it gold plated asap.

beenoman contact mouthpieceexpress.com. To have the rim goldplated, it is $19.00 and to have the whole mpc plated in gold ,it is $24.00. Phone # is 540-989-8848. i cannot think of the toll free # right now , but call them, they do the work right there.

Doesn't that mpc come with a cold cup/rim?

My friend down in Knoxville is plating my mouthpiece for me, as well as doing a little repair work on my trumpet.

His website is: http://www.frostymountainchimes.com/plating.htm

Plating is $15 if your piece is in good condition and doesn't require too much prep work, but it's $30 if it's in worser condition and requires nickel plating prior to gold plating.

There's an emal link on the page, just tell him I sent you.

I much prefer the feel of gold plating, but don't notice any significant difference in playability vs. silver. I do notice any nicks, no matter how small, regardless of material. I am going to have several gold plated as soon as I get out of my '22B' negative budget situation.

I too like the way gold feels, but do not notice any playabilty differences. It seems warmer to me.

I find that I am alot more flexible on a gold mouthpiece. I like to play with a wet embouchure so it works nicely

Is a gold plated or silver plated mouthpiece cup/rim easier to keep warm when you're playing outside, like in marching band?
Thanks!

Personally, I prefer the feel of gold in every situation. I think it always feels more "ready to play." And for me, it did seem to hold more warmth than my old silverplated pieces.

From the GR site, it’ll probably shed some scientific light on the situation.

http://www.grmouthpieces.com/questions15.htm

Pay particular attention to the where it talks about the nominal difference in temperature.
