I am moving to Chicago and need to pick up a new case to replace my current Bach hard cases that I have preferred for maximum protection and best fit. My requirements are that the new case has comfortable, backpack-style shoulder straps, provides adequate protection, and doesn't scream "There's a few thousand dollars worth of trumpet in here!" My primary concern is finding something that works well for walking to the train stop, riding on crowded trains, etc.

Ideally, I would like to be able to carry both my Bb and C with me but should be able to get by taking just one on most days and using my hard double case when need be.

I've been looking at the Protec Xtreme and the GIG Trumpet /Cornet Gig Bag from WWBW (backpack looking).

Does anyone have experience with either of these cases or recommend anything else that might be more suitable?

Best Regards,

Just one horn? With a good-sized mutebag attached? "Bullet-proof"? Relatively inexpensive? Good for commuting? Torpedo bag. http://www.slidebone.com

I actually find the Bach case very good for the tube. You can use it as a battering ram to clear a path for yourself as you jump on the train, you can use it as a seat if you turn it on its side, and as you say it's nice and sturdy.

I should add a music pocket as another requirement. I see that the torpedo bag has an optional attachment: not sure how awkward it would feel though. Great suggestion though - keep 'em coming!

I recommend looking into Brass Bags, I have a quad bag and only a little bit larger than a Bach single case, and it has backpack straps. Best of luck!!

I second Ed's Torpedo bag recommendation. It covers most of your requirements...make sure you look at the newer ones that can take both the mute bag and the enlarged music pouch at the same time.

Trevor

If you want a double you might want to look at Wolfpak or Marcus Bona (pricey, but i've heard wonderful things and am ordering a Quad as soon as one arrives)

It really seems like I've been saying this a lot lately: check out Wiseman.

Perfection in case form - although I would suggest going for the triple rather than the double - more room for mutes, metronome, tuner, mouthpieces and everything else we love to carry with us.
It also means that when you get a piccolo, you won't have to replace the case
