You know how everyone hates those people that invites themselves over? Well seems like I'm gona become one of them in a different sense .

In the Jazz forum there is currently a wonderful thread on improvisation by jazz-player-collector. This has received much praise and love by many. So, much as how that is set up, I was wondering if anyone would want to start a music theory thread. I believe that an informative thread such as that could be beneficial to many. I would do it, but my knowledge is lacking hence why i want one created to learn .

Well I checked it out and it seems a bit lacking. Not many threads and posters. What I was really hoping to get started was a place where people could learn the basics and follow a path of music theory education not just a forum type setting where you can post questions or comments. Also is the site new?

Hmm just everything people are willing to contribute. I'm sure it would be a saving grace for a true beginner to have a place of reference for meter, key signature, rhythm. I would be more than happy to start the basics if I get enough support, but as I do not know that much the idea would be for others to pick up and contribute. If all goes well I would plan on having everything from what a quarter note is to different chord progressions.

I guess you could get the Aebersold volume 3, the II-V7 book, and work out of that. Or you could start learning some standards and bebop heads and soloing over them, most of them are just a bunch of II-V's modulating around.
