I used to have a Swedish-made trumpet mute that had Dizzy Gillespie's signature on it. It was an adjustable cup-mute that cost about a hundred dollars and came in copper, brushed copper, silver, etc.
I can't remember the name of the company that made them and I can't find them in any store. Even Dillon's. Can anybody help me? I want to get one of these mutes again. What was the name? It was a weird swedish name. |

Ullven IS the name. I just got an Ullven Copper Wah (harmon) mute, and will be posting a thread on it shortly. Keep an eye out _________________ Sparks in Daytona

I have a mute such as you are describing, but it does not state the company's name, only stamped "Sweden". It is a stem mute and is silver in color, I do not believe the mute is made from aluminum. I bought it in Manny's in NYC in about 1959-1960. I have never seen another one like it nor heard one that even comes close to its' exclusive tone. I do not think you can buy one in the USA, but perhaps you may find it in your search engine...........wish I could help more...............JT _________________ Bach "Big Apple" M37 Strad trumpet

I've been using the Ullven copper adjustable cup and the copper Wa-Wa for about 10 years now. Retail was $130 ea., I paid about $80 apiece. They sound great and play in tune . . . and they're heavy. I haven't seen them available anywhere for a while now. _________________ Crazy Nate - Fine Yet Mellow Fellow
