Attended trumpet day at Duquesne University today. Adelstein, Jones and Lirette all addressed in lectures trumpet techniques.
It was a nice day. Sean Jones is unbelievable, Adelstein is still in great form and has such a relaxed and practicle approach to being an orchestral trumpeter, and Chuck Lirette has an amazing sound and is a very dedicated teacher and orchestral musician. All in all a very nice day. Sean is giving a faculty recital on campus tom. night at 8:00 p.m. in the PNC recital hall. _________________ Freelance Performer/Teacher WV, PA, MD, and OH http://www.neil-king.com |

I occasionally study with Chuck Lirette. He IS a great teacher, and a really great guy!
I'm glad you were able to attend this event. I didn't really see it advertised much until it was too late. I would have loved to have gone!

I studied with Adelstein for two years, when I was a kid. Never was a more down to earth teacher, anywhere. Please tell more.

Mr. Adelstein was great. He discussed basic air concepts, his knowledge was very praticle being based mainly upon a modified pivot system embruchure and keeping tension away from the body as we play. He also shared several stories with the audience. One that I enjoyed was about the famous recording made of Gabrelli music with the Chicago and Philly Brass. It was recorded in Phill, in a "barn type" building. As they were recording a rock and roll band was downstairs playing also. They were shaking the floor and he said it is a miracle that they did not show up on the recording. He returned to Cleveland and Szell called him into his office to ask questions about the recording. The first being how did he like playing the others. Mr. A responded with "it was very fulfilling and I enjoyed it greatly, sir". The Maestro then ask who conducted. Mr. A. responded with "we did not use a conductor". Szell then says "Well that must have been why you guys liked it so well". Adelstein responded with, "you got that right", and they both laughed. I still cannot get over Bernies sound, full and beautiful. It wasa great day _________________ Freelance Performer/Teacher WV, PA, MD, and OH http://www.neil-king.com |
