Nice info thanks.

Thanks for the links! While I have next to no improv chops, this really is pure gold for those of use building our vocabulary.

I really think Jamie Abersold really hits the idea of improv for a beginner on the head in one of his videos. The idea is to develop our own "vocabulary", by taking these transcriptions, and transcribing on our own licks that we hear and like. Incorporate those into your improv solos, so that you always have something of atleast some substance in those solos. Improvise the solos but throw in your "vocabulary" of licks into these solos.

Last part of this post is in response to someone that asked, what exactly are they suppose to do with those sources.

I used to be obsessed by patterns... it's not hard to do. These days I like to make up patterns without writing them down... the ones I find most useful are the ones with interesting intervals.. these can be used with vastly changed rhythms and made into new improv ideas. eg. put the down beat on what is normally the off beat... or insert a half note here and there.

Very cool. Thanks for posting these links!!

Got to admit I am curious about something, and this question is not directed at you, just a general question to all trumpet players: I'm not a jazz player. But after I learn all these licks and patterns (which are not difficult but definately time consuming), how much money can I realistically expect to earn over and above what I am making now bugling at a race track?

Sincere Thanks!
