Definitely flugle. He played a yamaha 631 (rose brass) and 731 (silver). "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" is his best album. I have it on cassette and vinyl. I heard him play in Dayton Ohio a few years ago and he played trumpet the entire concert. It was wierd. I personally like him playing flugel better. At the concert he said "Feels So Good" put his daughter through college. I thought that was pretty cool! I read somewhere that he is now playing Callichio flugels. |

He played a Callichio the last I saw him. That was a old 731 Yamaha, great horn!

I believe Mr. Mangione currently uses and endorses Calicchio instruments.
Before Calicchio made a flügelhorn, Mr. Mangione used Yamaha flügels.
His tone on Feels So Good recording seemed bright or cornet-like. It could have been more a combination of his personal concept of tone plus how the record was mixed. At the time he was a flügel specialist, so I doubt he used a trumpet or a cornet. |

Chuck Mangione played a Yamaha flugelhorn with a Giradenelle cornet mouthpiece. He like the sound better. He now uses Callichio flugelhorns. |

What's with all the CM attention all of a sudden? I come home from work and three of the posts on the front page concern Chuck Mangione?!?!?! Cool! He's one of my favorites. He doesn't get quite the same kind of attention a lot of other great players do, but he's still pretty awesome.
