I got a little flyer today from the South Carolina School of the Arts and Music Conservatory. It looked like a nice school, but I had never heard about it? Anyone have?

Do you mean North Carolina School of the Arts?? Its a good school. Everything from I believe middle school up to graduate school. Last time I checked Ray Mase was teaching trumpet there.

Hi,

I think that their brass program is declining slightly. The teacher at the present is Roy Poper but I believe he is only there one day a week, maybe two. I have heard rummors that he will only be there for a couple of years and that they might try to bring is someone else.

NCSA has recently hired Mark Niehaus as the trumpet teacher. He's the principal of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. I know a few players there, and pretty much Niehaus flies to NC once a week to give them an hour lesson, then he's gone. Not a great school to go to if you need a chop doc, etc. But if you can already play and want an impressive school on your resume, give it a shot.

Mr. Niehaus is a fabulous trumpet player and has many years of experience for a player of his age. He would be a wonderful person to learn from. He is doing great things in the Milwaukee Symphony.
