Congratulations! A very nice horn.

I was a dealer for these horns for several years and still have a Bb and a C that hold up against any other horn I've ever played.

Model 54 was also known as the Severinsen personal model and was the horn he usually played. According to Dick Ackright Doc play tested each horn and none were released for sale until he was happy. These were very carefully built instruments with some innovative thought put into their designs.

The serial number tells you the year month and day the horn was built. this trumpet was done on May 4th 1993. It's a large bore instrument. They seem to model Bach Mt. Vernon models without actually copying all the features of these trumpets.

Most of the guys I sold horns to still have them after 20 years which says something about how well they perform over the long haul.

Have a great time with your new horn!

Dick is still in Oakland at Best Instrument Repair. The address you list sounds like the same address.

I have had some nice chats with him when I have dropped off and picked up horns given to him to repair. Perhaps he would be able to give you some info?

You've a rare find; if you pass it on, someone else will have a rare find. You may look back on it later on as a horn you regretted selling.
EBAYing does give one the chance to play great horns for a while and maybe turn a few bucks. To each their own.

Very Nice! The model 54 has been my b flat since 1990.
Every time I try horns at stores, shows or festivals, I just
can't be more satisfied than with what I have. Congrats, enjoy
and take great care of it 'cause they're not made anymore.

Same here. It beats all the horns I've tried in shops, etc....
Bel Cantos are kind of the "Hidden Horn" that people often don't know about. I'm very lucky to have discovered them in time.....
