Nick Norton



Nick Norton has been a member of the Utah Symphony Orchestra since 1980. Hailing from Rusk, Texas, he received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976, and a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance in 1977, studying with J. Frank Elsass and Ray Crisara. Other post-graduate work includes studies at the University of Southern California where he studied with Anthony Plog.

Mr. Norton has been a member of the Fellowship Brass Quintet at Yale, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra and has also played principal trumpet with the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra under Helmuth Rilling, and the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival with Christopher Hogwood.

With the Utah Symphony, Mr. Norton has premiered three Anthony Plog compositions and has taught at the University of Texas, Amarillo College, Malmo Musikhogskola, Roma Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and the University of Utah.

Mr. Norton and Utah Symphony string bassist, Claudia Norton were married in 1995. They enjoy hiking, biking, gardening, and tango.

Anthony DiLorenzo



Anthony DiLorenzo, trumpet, has appeared as soloist with the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, and New York Philharmonic, and has held positions with the Philadelphia Orchestra, New World Symphony, Santa Fe Opera, and Utah Symphony. Along with CCBQ trumpeter Geoffrey Hardcastle, Anthony is also a member of the Burning River Brass large brass ensemble, and Proteus 7, a mixed chamber ensemble.

A native of Stoughton, Massachusetts, he began trumpet studies with Peter Chapman and Roger Voisin, later receiving his Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music. While a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, he worked with Leonard Bernstein who nominated him for an Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Anthony is also an Emmy Award-winning composer, whose works have been performed by the San Francisco Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Utah Symphony, and New World Symphony, and can be heard regularly on numerous American television networks (including the ABC College Football theme music). The CCBQ takes full advantage of Anthony's composition talent, and regularly enlists him to write new music for the quintet. His original work "Firedance", which the CCBQ premiered and recorded on its Street Song album, has become a favorite among student and professional brass quintets around the world.

Tony plays on Bach Stradivarius trumpets.

Edmund Cord



Edmund Cord was Principal Trumpet of the Israel Philharmonic, Utah Symphony, and Santa Fe Opera. He was a soloist with Israel Philharmonic, Bangkok Symphony, and Utah Symphony. He has been guest Principal Trumpet with the symphony orchestras of Saint Louis, Indianapolis, Houston, and San Diego.

Mr. Cord has performed with Doc Severinsen, Ella Fitzgerald, Henry Mancini, Marvin Hamlisch, the Moody Blues, and others in jazz and commercial genres. Often requested for commercial recording dates, he performs frequently with the Indianapolis Symphony, the Indianapolis Chamber Brass Choir, Broadway touring companies, big bands, and other ensembles.

He served as Director of the Bangkok Trumpet and Brass Festival in 2004 and from 1994-2000 was brass coach and the trumpet faculty of the Asian Youth Orchestra. A charter member of the International Trumpet Guild, Mr. Cord coaches and conducts various ensembles and is Director of the Indiana University Brass Choir. His former students have performance and teaching positions in orchestras, colleges, and service bands in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Australia, and Japan.

Mr. Cord has presented master classes, clinics, and workshops in brass performance in Australia, Israel, and throughout Asia and North America. He is a former student of Max Woodbury, Herbert Mueller, Louis Davidson, Charles Gorham, Thomas Stevens, and Arnold Jacobs.

Jeffrey Luke



Jeffrey Luke has been Associate Principal Trumpet with the Utah Symphony since 2003.

A native of Oklahoma City, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma City University and a Master of Arts degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he studied trumpet with Timothy Morrison and was a member of the Honors Brass Quintet. Upon graduation, Mr. Luke joined the acclaimed Atlantic Brass Quintet, which allowed him to tour forty-nine states, as well fourteen countries in Europe, Asia, Central America, and the Middle East during his thirteen-year tenure.

His teaching has included residencies at the Boston Conservatory, Boston University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and the Tanglewood Institute. He has conducted master classes at Oklahoma City University, Louisiana State University, the University of Maryland, and Harvard University. Mr. Luke has also been a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra and has performed with the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Orchestra.

Edward Gornik

Ed Gornik has been a member of the Utah Symphony trumpet section since 1975 serving as co-principal from 1980-2002. He attended Northwestern University from 1966-1971 where he received a B.M.E. and an M.M.E. Upon graduation he joined the San Antonio Symphony and performed with them from 1971-1975. He has served as a professor of trumpet on the faculties of the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and Weber College, and can be heard as a soloist and orchestral performer on many cds.

Peter Margulies



Peter Margulies has been a member of the Utah Symphony since 1989. During the 1990-91 season, he was Principal Trumpet of the San Antonio Symphony. He has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra.

Mr. Margulies received his Bachelor of Music degree, summa cum laude, in 1984 from the Eastman School of Music. After a brief period as a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, he attended the Julliard School where he received his Master of Music degree in 1987. Mr. Margulies has been a faculty member of the University of Utah since 1992 for applied trumpet. He has appeared as soloist with various University ensembles. In October 2002, he was a soloist with the Utah Symphony performing the world premiere of Anthony Plog's “Concerto for Two Trumpets.”
