|
|
Hi Everyone,
A few years ago on the Calicchio website there was a link to a short documentary of old man Dominick who founded the company. Since the company has been sold and relocated that appears to no longer exist. I was wondering if anyone remembers this and if so, where it might be found?
Thanks. _________________ "I can't put my kids to sleep but I sure can wake the little suckers up in the morning" - Doc Severinson |

That documentary is priceless! I even had my young son watch it with me because it shows a way of life that no longer exist.

The film is a great insight into why his horns were so special.

I know virtually nothing about the history of Calicchio. Was it really a one man operation as it seems in the video? Wow. How does the current production of Calicchio horns compare to how was it was before his passing? _________________ Practicing is for the insecure. |

What great footage. I'm curious too whether he had any help or was truly a one-man operation.
With regard to current production, I'm guessing that John Duda is making a couple hundred horns a year now. |

At the Willoughby shop in West LA, he had a little metal paint locker on his back patio that was lined with aluminum foil, and wired with floodlights in the corners. That was where he baked on the lacquer.
Made everything on site except for 2 screws and a pinky hook.

About that video: I don't believe it is normally available on the Calicchio site, but when you register a horn, you're given access to it. It's definitely worth watching. _________________ Vintage Olds & Reynolds & Selmers galore

What were his trumpets selling for in 1973?

There is an interesting horn currently on Ebay. It was built by Calichio and uses his valve block and a Besson Leadpipe and bell. It was put together at Bessons request.
What type of relationship did he have with Besson?
The horn is neither marked as a Besson or a Calichio.....no original paperwork either.
Seems interesting.......but a real "wildcard". |

When I bought mine in 1978 it was $650 - IIRC. _________________ Bill Blackwell
