On a hunch I tried out a Jupiter 7C I had lying around and discovered it works really well for me. The cup is wider than a VB7C, even looks a little wider than a VB3C. The rim is a little narrower than a normal VB rim and the cup is a little deeper than a VB3C and more conical with a steeper more vertical drop off into the cup. I discovered the back bore is tighter than any other VB mouthpiece I have. The machining is a little rough. Does anyone else use one? Also, does my description of the piece sound similar to anything by more well known manufacturers? I'm wondering what Jupiter may have copied.

I think they pretty much designed their own. I tried the one that came with my XO model and it was absolutely terrible, and unlike anything I had ever played before. I think it was a 3C or similar.

Well I recorded myself playing the same tune on a VB7C, VB3Cmegatone, Schilke 10B4, DW3E, VB7CW and Jupiter 7C. I then did a blind audio evaluation, ranking them just by tone quality and the Jupiter 7C came out tops. I was surprised it beat out my megatone, which previously held top place in my mouthpiece hall of fame. Subjective, I know, but from now on I won't rule out any mouthpiece if its a cheap brand or even a no name $5 piece.

The way you describe the Jupiter mp make me believe that it is a copy of a vintage Bach 7C mp.
I have a Bach 7C (for cornet), corp without dot, letters and numbers are sort of hit in de mp. Probably from de sixties.
It's a little bit deeper AND bigger than my 3C corp. from the eighties, it has a narrow but very goodfeeling rim and so on, I believe it fits in your description.
It's a great mp, and I thought of having customized it for trumpet, an expensive option. Maybe the Jupiter can do the job. In the meantime I changed to the Curry B-cup and never looked back.

The 7C Jupiter flugelhorn mpc that came with my horn feels nothing like a Bach 7C, but rather more like a 3C. It's the least favorite of my flugel mpcs.

Very surprising that a flugelpiece feels not like a trumpetpiece.

Delano, if you're referring to my post, I need to clarify -- Jupiter 7C flugel mpc does not feel like a Bach 7C flugel mpc. I also own a Bach 3C flugel mpc and the Jupiter's 7C flugel mpc feels similar to it in size. Sorry if *I* caused any confusion.

I had a Jupiter flugel that played pretty nicely. I thought thtat it was best with the Jupiter 7c flugel piece that came with the horn.

Makes my Jupiter sound too, as they say, "tubby" at least to my ears.
