He is not playing at present, but is "around". I hope he has a comeback, he was with Woody Herman and almost every big band in the
60s,70s 80s. Will keep you posted. chop-doc |

Before Jon Faddis came to New York, Lloyd Michaels was THE go-to guy in NY for studio work or Broadway shows that required extreme high range. It's unbelievable that he currently isn't even playing.

I heard him live with Clark Terry's big band , CT introduced him as karate chops, now I don't know how true, but a rumor I heard was that he suffered an injury to his neck, of course he could be retired now .

There is an period at the end of the link that shouldn't be there. Remove it and the link will work.
The period the OP used to end the sentence has been inadvertantly incorporated into the link. |

I came across Lloyd at Warburton's shop outside of Orlando. Kenny Titmus and Terry said "you should come by and meet this guy. He knows that system backwards and forwards." I said what is his name? "Lloyd." was the only thing they said. I get there and it is Lloyd Micheals!!! I was freaked out! I have him on like 10 different albums playing his butt off. I was very honored to meet him and hang with him. I went back and saw him again and plan to do so again in a few days. He is a legend. He isn't playing but he will be soon. When he starts back.... look out everyone. Terry Warburton is a great guy and has really helped Lloyd out by the way. Real class act... except he's Canadian! Only kidding. Anyway, Lloyd was very nice and very gracious. Just a good guy. He fell on hard times through a few freaky things and it was tough for him for a few years. His story is one of those that you just go.... man... that could have happened to me too! and then thank god that it didn't! |
