I received the Keynotes newsletter today by email, for the first time, unsolicited. I can't help but suspect that my email was acquired by Conn-Selmer via some sort of harvest from Trumpetherald's (or possibly Trumpetmaster's) email database, in an attempt to sway opinion in the brass playing community regarding the Bach factory strike. Did anyone else here receive this email, unsolicited? If my suspicions are correct, how could they have hacked into the database?

This moderator has received no such email.

In general, it's pretty hard to get someone's email address directly from TrumpetHerald.com. To the best of my knowledge, the only time the system discloses your email address is if you send someone an email through TH's email capability -- your email address is used as the Sender's email address. I think it would take a compromise of the site's security to harvest emails in the manner you suggest.

I'll give Todd a heads-up about this, but I suspect Conn-Selmer got your email from somewhere else.

I got the same email spam this morning. I am registered with Trumpet Corner (Karl Seiver's site) which is a Conn-Selmer thing and guessed that was the source.

It's just a run-of-the-mill promotional mailer that has a few articles about practising and band playing, etc., along with promotional material about their instruments. Nothing nefarious, really, unless you've taken one side or another as far as the strike is concerned, and are a little bit paranoid (like I am), and tend to read between the lines, whether there is anything between the lines or not. But I was concerned about how they had gotten my email, in case it was a violation of this site's security. I don't think that I'm registered at Trumpet Corner, but I suppose it's possible.

I got it also, but there was an unsubscribe option. It didn't bother me, so I did not unsubscribe.

I received it but I remember signing up. There was a post within the last couple of weeks linking to an article by Vincent Bach on tuming. In order to read it, one needed to sign on to the subscription.

If you looked at this article, then you probably signed up without realizing it.

I got it.

I have decided that I will never own another NEW instrument from Conn-Selmer. The company is no longer what we knew in the past. There are still companies out there that are trying to produce a decent horn while protecting both the emplyees of the company and the interests of the consumer. I'll choose to do business with them.

That's the way I feel about it. Kanstul, Schilke and Getzen are keeping the tradition alive, and I feel much better about supporting these fine makers of trumpets than those who have betrayed that tradition.

Buy ANY musical item on internet where valid e-mail address is required and you can be sure The Steinway Group / Conn-Selmer and other music suppliers will get it if they want it. So will anyone else that wants it. If one is naive and gullible about security on the internet, don't cry on my shoulder. The best internet security has been "hacked" or compromised, and their are companies now in the market willing to take your money to insure it won't happen and if it does to help you restore whatever you lose. This is also my rationale for buying and selling utilizing only U. S. Postal Service money orders. If anyone knows where and who you are, the U. S. Postal Service does (U.S. Postal Inspectors Service) and they'll come after whoever messes with their money orders, and like the Mounties, they get them.

If I recall my sign-up for Trumpet Corner, you provided an e-mail address to Conn-Selmer. At that point, you (tacetly) gave permission for e-mails to be sent in order to "communicate important issues or information".

Nothing is free, ladies and gentlemen.

And, it isn't unreasonable for them to send you something in response to your signing on to their computer system and making use of their provided site.

I agree with Al, but why was a three-year-old thread dragged up?

Did the above two posters notice the date of the previous post. It is almost 3 years old.
